STORIES OF INTEREST

Monday Luncheon Keynote by Vice President Mike Pence and Maersk’s Klaus Bruun Egeberg
SATELLITE is honored to host Vice President Mike Pence, and Maersk Shipping’s Head of Mobility, Klaus Bruun Egeberg for the biggest keynote luncheon program in show history, taking place on Monday, May 6 at 12:00 PM. This will represent the first time SATELLITE has ever hosted both a senior executive speaker from one of the world’s top three commercial shipping companies, and the first time we have ever hosted a serving U.S. Vice President. While the two speakers come from markedly different backgrounds, both will address critical, innovative changes driven by advancements in space technology. Egeberg will explain how satellite connectivity can help drive the evolution of global autonomous shipping fleets. Vice President Pence will deliver a special keynote address on how the administration plans to increase support for space exploration and commercialization projects that require partnership between national security, civil space, and satellite industry organizations.

Wednesday General Session to Feature an All Women Panel
All SATELLITE attendees are welcome to attend the Wednesday General Session titled “Our Collective Role in Empowering Women and Cultivating Diversity in Aerospace.” As the world looks to our community for innovative leadership, we must also lead the way as one of the world’s most inclusive industries. Simply put, diversity makes all of us better. This roundtable discussion, featuring a fantastic line-up of industry pioneers (including Kay Koplovitz, Founder of USA Networks and the first female broadcast chief executive in history, as well as executive leadership from National Science Foundation, ABS Global, Ball Aerospace, Stellar Solutions, Space Foundation, and Inmarsat Government), was assembled with the generous support of the Women in Aerospace (WIA) organization. The speakers will present data on aerospace workforce trends, identify solutions move the needle on diversity and inclusion, and share success stories of diverse teams, technologies and architectures.

3D Printed Rockets: Relativity Presentation at SATELLITE Will Be a Turning Point for the Space Industry
Relativity CEO Tim Ellis is coming to SATELLITE 2019 to push space innovation to the next level – with an innovative 3D printing platform that can build and launch spacecraft within a matter of days.  On Monday, May 6 at 11:00 AM, Ellis will participate in a fireside chat at the SATELLITE 2019 conference (Walter E. Washington Convention Center) and provide attendees and members of the press with an exclusive first glance at the future of space production.  Hosted by SATELLITE 2019 Chair Jeffrey Hill, this presentation will detail Relativity’s latest progress in developing the first and only aerospace platform to integrate machine learning, software, and robotics with metal 3D printing technology to build and launch rockets in days instead of years, disrupting 60 years of aerospace technology.

A New Format for Via Satellite’s Satellite Executive of the Year Award
In previous years, a Via Satellite committee would determine the winner, which would be announced in advance of the event. There were no surprises at the SATELLITE show, and everybody knew who would be receiving the award. This time, the rulebook is being thrown out of the window. The SEOTY will be decided at the event, and the announcement of the winner will happen live at the SATELLITE 2019 Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 8th at 12:30 PM. The winner will be chosen by a combination of votes collected by Via Satellite readers, the Via Satellite editorial board, and SATELLITE 2019 attendees! Voting will end at 12:00 PM EST on Tuesday, May 7th. The winner will be announced at the SATELLITE 2019 Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 8th at 12:30 PM. Click here to learn about the nominees!

Introducing the Satellite Technology of the Year Award
This year, Via Satellite is proud to introduce its very first Satellite Technology of the Year (STOTY) award, complementing the financial and strategic achievements recognized by our long-standing Satellite Executive of the Year (SEOTY) event. This new award recognizes: a single technology, innovation, or concept, as well as the people and/or organization responsible for the technology’s development and realization. Like the Executive of the Year award, the Technology of the Award winner will be determined by a combination of votes collected by Via Satellite readers, the Via Satellite editorial board, and SATELLITE 2019 attendees! Voting will end at 12:00 PM EST on Tuesday, May 7th. The winner will be announced at the SATELLITE 2019 Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 8th at 12:30 PM. Click here to discover the nominees!

Startup Space
Back for the third year, Startup Space features executive leaders from 14 startup aerospace firms seeking seed and Series A funding. All SATELLITE attendees are welcome to watch them compete for five private investor meetings with Space Angels Network, Khosla Ventures, Starbridge Venture Capital, MoonshotX, and Boeing HorizonX Ventures, as well as for free, all-access admittance to the SATELLITE 2020 event and an interview in Via Satellite magazine. Taking place in the SATELLITE Unveiled Theater directly on the show floor on Tuesday, May 7, this is an event not to be missed! This year, the two winners (one from each group) will be announced at the SATELLITE 2019 Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 8th.

5G Takes Center Stage
This year’s conference dives into 5G, a challenge and an opportunity for the satellite industry, and a topic that deserves much more discussion. We’re welcoming several speakers from the telecommunications space to bring their expertise to the stage and produce holistic conversations.
