Hello SATELLITE Community!
Spring is finally here and with it comes warmer weather, new life, and, at SATELLITE 2019, new startups! On Tuesday, May 7th we will be hosting our third annual Startup Space Entrepreneur Pitch Contest, running throughout the day at the Exhibit Hall Unveiled Theater Stage. Leaders from 16 different startup companies from around the world will compete for private pitch meetings with four top aerospace private investment firms such as Boeing HorizonX Ventures, Aerospace Valley, Earth2Orbit, Space Angels Network, Khosla Ventures, free access to SATELLITE 2020, and interviews in Via Satellite’s Executive of the Year edition magazine.
This is one of SATELLITE’s most important and successful new events. Since being launched in 2017, Startup Space has received hundreds of applications to compete, with 40 CEOs and company founders selected as competitors, and hosted two dozen of the aerospace industry’s most active private investors as judges. Winners and other competitors have used the opportunity to secure millions in additional financing to build prototypes, expand facilities, and hire new talent. Startup Space is the gateway to our community. It provides new entrants and veteran industry professionals a valuable opportunity to meet each other, learn from each other, and share ideas.
Startup Space 2019 contestants will be placed into two groups – one for seed-level companies, and one for those seeking Series-A capital. Each contestant will be given five minutes to pitch their company or product in front of a panel of judges. This is followed by a five-minute period during which judges ask questions or make comments to the contestants. Judges score the presentations based on a standardized set of various categories. The single contestant with the highest overall score overall will be named the contest winner and receive the grand prize.
This year’s competitors represent companies developing range of technologies and services for a variety of global markets. Competing companies include: Exodus Space Corp; Gold Orbit; TimeTag; Alen Space; Altius Space Machines; QEYNet; RoGo Fire; Abstract Assembly; Quantum 1 Network; Orbit Fab; AstroComm; H24E; Southern Stars; CisLunar Industries; Akash Systems; and Datalytyx. Our judges will represent investment firms such as Boeing HorizonX Ventures, Aerospace Valley, Earth2Orbit, Space Angels Network, Khosla Ventures, and more to be announced in the coming weeks!
Please join us on Tuesday, May 7th following the opening of the exhibit hall for our exciting Startup Space pitch contest! You’re welcome to watch the competition throughout the day, and speak with competitors after they’ve delivered their pitch. And, if you’re interested in participating in, or supporting the event as a sponsor, please reach out to us and we’ll provide the information you need.
We’ll see you in less than two months!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Hill
Chairman, SATELLITE 2019

The next generation of Ka-band HTS systems are offering significant increases in bandwidth, data rate and availability over currently-deployed networks. This trend is moving toward satellites with a high number of adjacent small spot beams, high bandwidths, and multiple polarizations. In order to avoid changing of user terminals for each different satellite network, it makes sense to design user terminals that meet the requirements of all Ka-band HTS networks. This talk will discuss the commonalities of different Ka-band networks and what set of parameters are required by user terminals to automatically switch between them without swapping out terminal hardware. This allows autonomous switching between the best-available-network at a given time and location.
With 300+ industry experts and 350+ pioneering companies taking the lead on shaping the satellite industry through game-changing innovations, SATELLITE is an industry event you don’t want to miss!

Hello SATELLITE Community!
The show is only around two months away now and everything is gearing up for the biggest and best SATELLITE yet. Speaking of bigger and better, we are revamping our awards to make them even more of the major talking points at the show.
The Satellite Executive of the Year award, which remains the most prestigious individual award in our industry will once again be one of the highlights of the event. But, this time, we are announcing the winner live at the event which is something new and exciting! We are also bringing back the Satellite Technology of the Year award where we will recognizing the technology breakthrough that has reshaped the way the satellite and connectivity industry works now and for years to come. Again, we will be announcing both awards at the Awards lunch which will hopefully add an extra edge and spice to the show, as we announce the winners of these awards in real time.
The satellite industry is full of innovation, now more than ever. We talk about this is the era of disruption, and these awards will be a great way of reflecting this change and innovation we are seeing in the industry. Over the last two years, Arianespace (Stephane Israel) and SpaceX (Gwynne Shotwell) have won the Satellite Executive of the Year award. It will be interesting to see who will follow in their footsteps. Equally, there is so much great technology in our industry. We look forward to recognizing a company that made a difference with its technology in 2018. It should be one of the highlights of SATELLITE.
I look forward to seeing you there!
The SATELLITE Conference & Exhibition is more diverse than ever! Check out some of our latest confirmed speakers:
